High cholesterol puts you at a high risk of stroke and heart attack.

Cholesterol is a substance which circulates in your blood and is essential for building cells and making hormones.

But too much of cholesterol can cause various problems including atherosclerosis.

It can affect your heart, brain and kidneys. Experts advise to avoid too much intake of some foods to prevent high cholesterol.

Full fat dairy: It is high in saturated fat which leads to bad cholesterol.

Red meat: Meats such as lamb, pork, beef contain high saturated fat which leads to high cholesterol. A balanced intake of these meats can be healthy.

Highly processed food: Foods like smoked sausages and chips are high in salt and fat and low in vitamins and minerals. They should be avoided.

Fried Foods: People with high cholesterol should avoid fried foods as they can contain trans fats which are bad cholesterol.
